Still Think We're Being too Strict?

SAVANNAH, GA (June 19, 2009): One man is injured after being struck by a vehicle earlier today.

Just after 12:00 p.m., today, a male pedestrian was attempting to cross Oglethorpe Street near Bull Street when he was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian attempted to cross the street despite oncoming traffic nearby. A car traveling East on Oglethorpe Street stuck the pedestrian as he entered the street. The pedestrian was transported to Memorial Medical Center with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the incident. Once released from the hospital, the pedestrian will be cited for jaywalking.

It is because incidents like this Metro Police began aggressively enforcing Crosswalk violations. Metro Police reminds the community to use crosswalks and obey crossing signals.
