Chaplain's Corps
The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Chaplain’s Corps, serves a vital role in the mission of the agency. It is comprised of ministers of various faiths from throughout our community. They provide invaluable services to the men and women of the Savannah Police department and the citizens of the Coastal Empire. They provide these services on a completely voluntary basis, and receive no monetary compensation. Frequently, they are called on to accompany police officers to deliver death notifications to family members who have lost loved ones through accidents or possible criminal related incidents. The chaplains also provide a much needed source of counseling and support for officers on a completely privileged basis. This service is an especially valuable asset when you consider that the suicide rate among police officers nationwide is alarmingly high and continuing to grow.
