Crosswalk Awareness & Enforcement Campaign

Police are launching a crosswalk awareness and enforcement campaign. Police hope the campaign brings additional attention to the rights and responsibilities of both drivers and pedestrians when it comes to crosswalk safety.

The campaign includes awareness of Georgia law, and police will have a special detail at downtown crosswalks and intersections enforcing the laws - focusing on both drivers and pedestrians. Fines range from $145 to $208.

Fraud Alert

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are warning merchants to be on the look-out for fraudulent "American Express Gift Cheques". The counterfeit checks are of good quality and even feature a quality holographic seal. SCMPD encourages merchants to contact American Express at 1-800-221-7282 to verify any questionable gift check. Merchants may also FAX a request for a Gift Check Fraud Guide to American Express at 1-801-945-2988.

Operation Identification

Operation Identification (Operation ID) is a citizen’s burglary prevention program for use in homes and
businesses. The Operation ID program involves marking property with an identifying number as a means of
discouraging burglary and theft. It also provides police with a way to identify property should it be stolen and recovered. In communities where it has been properly implemented, Operation ID has shown dramatic results in burglary reduction.

Pay Traffic Citations On-Line!

You can now pay traffic citations on-line to the Recorder's Court of Chatham County. Go to www.savannahga.gov and follow the instructions. The process is easy and allows payment of most traffic violations filed with the Court. However, some traffic violations or the status of some citations (e.g., DUI and No Insurance or Day of Court, Contempt of Court, and Delinquent) may not allow a payment to be processed through the online system. You will need the citation number, name of the defendant, and a Visa or MasterCard for your online payment transaction.

Guns Recovered Report

Each week, SCMPD officers recover and seize numerous guns from our community. Every gun off the street, is a gun we keep away from criminals, and keep out of the hands of our children. Metro Police can only be as effective as our community in stemming the tide of gun-use in crimes in our area. Report illegal guns! Call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 to report illegal guns. You can remain anonymous and you may qualify for a cash award. Click on the "CrimeStoppers" logo below to make a report anonymously through the web.

Click on the "Recovered Gun Report" to the left to find out about the guns taken off the street this week ... and who police arrested for having an illegal gun in our community.
